Feasibility of a Functional Medicine Approach to Slowing Clinical Cognitive Decline in Patients Over Age 55: A Multiple Case Study Report
5 patients over age 55 with varying levels of cognitive impairment
What Did Researchers Study?
Researchers examined a multifaceted intervention combining physical exercise, mental exercise, dietary changes, nutritional supplements, sleep optimization, and stress management in five patients with cognitive impairment.
What Did Researchers Find?
Three of five patients were no longer classified as cognitively impaired and a fourth improved in classification. Patients reported improved memory and mental clarity, and brain-connectivity changes were observed.
This was a small, multicomponent intervention. It cannot isolate the effect of cognitive training alone.
