How the
Brain works

LEARNING MODEL

Untitled design.png

Let's try a simple activity.

Spell the name of Philippines' first president backwards. While it may appear simple, this activity engages to a lot of your cognitive abilities.

To successfully complete this task, one must:

  1. Pay attention to the instructions.

  2. Use your working memory to remember instructions.

  3. Use your long-term memory to remember the name of the Philippines' first president.

  4. Use logic to figure out how to answer the question - how to spell the name backwards.

  5. Will you sound out each syllable as you spell it, or will you visualize the written name before spelling it?

  6. Your brain's speed affects how fast you can get this done.

Each of these cognitive skills play an important part in processing new information. That means if even one of these skills is weak, no matter what kind of information is coming your way, grasping, retaining, or using that information is affected. In fact, most learning struggles are caused by one or more weak cognitive skills.

If you want to know if weak cognitive skills are holding you or your child back, book a cognitive skills assessment today.
